Question - 1 How should I keep myself unaffected by opinions given by others (relatives/friends/other people)? The world is busy giving free advice about others and at times I tend to get affected by the same. Ans: My philosophy of taking advice: ONLY take it from people who matter & people who are masters. Everyone else’s opinion is not something I take seriously. Do you need to be clear that in whatever area that you’re seeking advice, is that person who’s giving advice a master at it? And if that’s the case, well embrace that person’s mastery and see how you can apply that in your life. Also, sometimes it’s also important to ignore advice from those who matter when they don’t have expertise in that area!
Question - 2 Being a 20-year-old mechanical engineering student, how to build a foundation of entrepreneurship? What books would you recommend to read based on entrepreneurship? Ans: For the next 10 years, you’ve got to take the maximum amount of risks so that you can gather as many experiences and lessons that you can. Keep learning, just be a sponge, and keep absorbing all that you can get access to. So, how do set that foundation - Also, a little heads-up, I’m not a reader. I find it hard to stick on to books. I’m a firm believer that it’s best to get your hands dirty when it comes to entrepreneurship!
Question - 3 From 6 months we have got very less worthy CVs or the ones who come for interviews don’t join saying that the work environment is very dull and negative. Or they don’t see any growth in the hierarchy because it’s a family business. Or they are simply out of our budget! My questions are - ● ● ● How to make the workplace interesting and positive? How do I market my company for hiring good talent at a reasonable cost? How to convince the potential employees that the firm’s ideology is to put the right person for the job?
Question - 3 Ans: Firstly, if the challenge you’re facing is that the potential employees are judging you based on what infrastructure you have got going, well, I suggest you invest some money to make it more people-friendly and vibrant. Remember this, a book is always judged by its cover! Also, consider marketing your company using the power of social media to talk about your company culture, the legacy of the company, the opportunities — where you are showcasing to the world that THIS is a great workplace to be at for anyone! The need is to create a desire for the workplace. And, be okay with paying the price to hire great talent if you spot it because honestly, not hiring good people will cost you more in the long run!
Question - 4 I’m interested in starting my entrepreneurship journey. Right now, I’m a sales manager in a reputed MNC. Is it a good idea to join my father’s business which is into Electronics in my hometown or should I start something on my own? Ans: Honestly, I’m not a person that doles out random advice without knowing details about your father’s business OR understanding the challenges, the potential of the business. And, of course, it’s also important to understand what it is that you’re interested in & your potential!
