Improve Drought Monitoring and Prediction in Dominican Republic Objetives • Alert all water sectors on the precipitation behavior • Continue improve flood and drought forecasting for the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean • Create an early drought warning system before the event of rainfall deficits

  11. Frontal Season Nov. – Abr. Frontal systems result in more precipitation in the northern, northeastern and western

Season Convective May -Jun During this period our country receives greater precipitation of large Mesoscale Convective Complexes (MCC), which emerge from the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), which has seen very active during this time. The major contribution of rain is observed in the regions, NE, SW and the southern part of the Western Region. Normal Anual Precipitation Dominican Rep. 1971-2000

  13. Tropical Activity Agosto - Octubre This season is involved in Tropical Cyclone Season starting on 1st. June until 30 November. During the months of August to October there has been a major tropical cyclone formation directly or indirectly affect our country. Rainfall is distributed throughout the national territory, but the largest amounts of the Regions are Northeast, Southeast and Southwest. The West Region which is normally dry receives its highest rainfall this season influenced by tropical cyclones
