The Battlefield of the Mind Important Verse on Bringing Thoughts into Captivity: Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:6)
The Battlefield of the Mind • Casting down – “to tear down, pull down, demolish without violence”, as if an altar to a pagan god • Imaginations – Greek is “log-is-`mos”- “reckoning, computation, reasoning, judgment” from which we derive our root word logic • Knowledge of God – “knowledge of Christian morals, right living, God’s ways” • Bring into captivity – capture one’s mind; captivate • Revised translation of 2 Corinthians 10:6: • Tear down, pull down and demolish all reckoning, computation, reasoning, and thoughts and every thing that makes itself higher and better than Christian morals, right living, God’s ways, and capture and captivate every thought that is not of God to the obedience of God.
The Battlefield of the Mind • Eliminate stinking thinking! • Avoid committing sins of pride, envy, jealousy, etc. and mental attitude sins • Don’t respond to thoughts with “I think, I feel, I want” but what does God want me to think, to feel and to do? • Can ask, “What Would Jesus Do?” • When you catch yourself in a thought that is wrong, ask for God’s forgiveness • With your emotions, remember that the emotions are real but that we often make bad choices based on feelings and not on the Word of God and with what the Holy Spirit is telling us. • Bring your thoughts into captivity – and start to develop the mind of Christ!
