  2. Home Folder vs Settings App • To prevent apps from starting when you sign in, you should probably use the Startup Apps screen in the Settings app in Windows 10. This is where you can turn apps on or off that you want to run at startup. It works fine and shows some apps that won’t appear in your Startup folders, but you can still access them. • For example, if you want an application to start every time you log in to your computer, you can add a shortcut to it in the Startup folder.

  3. How to open the home folder ? • There are two locations you’ll need to know to find the “Startup” folder. One is to determine which applications are launched in your personal account, the other is for all users. The programs found in these folders will start when the PC starts. Generally, you’ll want to put shortcuts in this folder, not EXE files. • To get started, use the Windows + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run menu. Type one of the following in the box and press Enter or click “OK.” • Personal user path: shell:home • All users path: shell: common home • The Startup folder will open immediately and you’ll probably see a bunch of folders and program shortcuts. • You can drag and drop program shortcuts out of this folder to have them launch at startup or prevent them from launching. It is very simple. The new method in Settings works in most cases, but this folder method is more flexible since you can add virtually any shortcut, which you can’t do from the Settings app.

  4. Where is the Windows startup folder ? • If you want to navigate to an individual user’s home folder, go to the following path and replace (USERNAME) with your username. • The system-wide home folder is located at: • Generally speaking, you’ll want to put startup apps in the user-specific folder, but if you don’t have multiple accounts, there’s no harm in adding them to the system-wide startup.
