Desperate times… • Lola receives a frantic call from her boyfriend Manni. He has misplaced a large sum of cash that he was bringing to his shady boss, Ronnie. In twenty minutes, Ronnie is coming to collect the money. So, he turns to Lola for help.
…call for desperate measures. • Lola’s got twenty minutes to come up with money for Manni to give to Ronnie or in desperation, he’s going to rob the supermarket across the street from the phone booth he’s in.

der Direktor- Tom Tykwer • Last name is pronounced “Tick-ver” • Born in Wuppertal, Germany in 1965 • Became interested in film at a very early age, fascinated by movies such as “Peter Pan”, Vittorio de Sica’s “Miracle in Milan”, as well as “King Kong”. • At the age of 11, he began to make Super 8 films.
ein Mann mit Weitblick… • Upon graduating from school and unsuccessful attempts at getting into film school, Tykwer moved to Berlin and became a projectionist. • In 1987, he became the programmer at the “Moviemento” theater. • In 1990, he made his first movie, the short film “Because”. This was followed by another short film “Epilog” in 1992. • In 1994, he made his first feature film “Deadly Maria”
ein Weitblick … • In 1994, along with Stefan Arndt, Wolfgang Becker, and Dani Levy, Tykwer formed the X Filme Creative Pool, a production company. • Their aim was to have complete creative control while maintaining some form of structure and financial security
Und dann… …Lola Rennt (1998) • X Filme’s first major international success. • Filmed in Berlin, Tykwer wrote the movie specifically for Franka Potente with the intention of casting her as Lola. • 1999 was also another big year for “Lola Rennt”. It won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Foreign Film. The movie was also nominated for the British Academy Award and Nation board of Review, both for Best Foreign Film.
