Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) - 2003 College currently undergoing a name change to become the “ Canadian College of Health Information Management” (CCHIM) -AGM June 2006 The Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) and the Canadian College of Health Record Administrators (CCHRA)/[“Canadian College of Health Information Management”(CCHIM)] operate as one organization, under the acronym “CHIMA”. Association & College Name

Both credentials ( C ) and ( A ) are valid and continue to be recognized Credential can only be used if: Member in good standing with CHIMA (Annual dues paid) Mandatory Credentialing in place Members not in good standing will be struck from the Register and notified in writing Certification / Credentialing

Our profession categorized in a clerical code #1413 - Records Management /Filing Clerks CHIMA met with HRSDC in September 05 All reference to coding classification functions and CHIMA have been removed Temporarily reassigned to #1122 – Professional Occupations in Business Services to Management National Occupational Code (NOC)

  11. Census Day - May 16, 2006 Critical to complete the census questions appropriately Final determination of the HIM professional NOC will be made based on census findings Statistics Canada Census 2006

  12. Diploma and Degree Profession 2 year College (diploma) 4 year degree or 2 + 2 Upon successful completion from a CHIMA-recognized academic institution, qualify to challenge the CHIMA National Certification Exam. Academic Changes

Now more than any other time, HIM Professionals need an organized body to ensure that the interests and concerns of the profession are effectively addressed.   As a member of CHIMA, you: Support professional advocacy initiatives; Stay informed on current national issues related to HIM practice; Access professional development and employment opportunities; Network with other HIM Professionals either in the same domain of practice or in one of the other domains of practice; Get a members-only price on continuing education workshops and conferences; Get advice on workplace issues; Can use your professional credentials; Can assure your employer that you are a professional and hold true to the CHIMA Code of Ethics: Support the national professional college which not only certifies HIM programs across Canada; it also ensures these recognized programs teach to set entry-level HIM practice standards. MembershipCONSEQUENCES OF RESIGNATION: • Membership in CHIMA has always been mandatory from a College and Association perspective. • Not a current member of CHIMA …Not eligible to use the professional credential or designation. • To date, non-members have not been removed from the College register, however with the implementation of mandatory continuing professional education (CPE) credits; we will be enforcing long-standing bylaws. Your name will be removed from the college register for 2007 and until reinstatement occurs.

Confirmed by the Board June 2005 Process developed by COE Mandatory CPE is a relevant way to demonstrate continuing competence within a profession – professional self-regulation by college (like other allied healthcare professionals) Start date September 2006 (but can go retroactive to September 2005) Mandatory CPE Credits

HIM professional association education programs and activities Formal HIM-related education programs of study Other association/vendor educational sessions/workshops/user groups on topics relevant to HIM Informal (including facility-specific) education programs related to HIM Professional and Association promotional activities specific to HIM Activities related to CHIMA recognized HIM programs Publication/Presentation of material relevant to HIM Association or related committees relevant to HIM Other non-HIM related activities (max. 20% content- 7 credits - in 3 year cycle) Mandatory CPE Credit Sessions
