Itinerary Day 1 7:30 am - Leave from IST with a packed lunch and water bottle from home. 1:30 pm - Approximate arrival at Mikumi. 2:15-3:30 pm – Tent allocation and unpack/ settle into tent 3:45-5:15 pm - Game park drive. 5:15pm – Shower and change into longs 6:30 pm – Dinner. 7:30 pm – ABRU PowerPoint presentation and question/answer session 8:45 pm - Lights out
5:45 am - Wake-up 6-8:00 am - Game park drive 8-9:00 am - Breakfast 9:30 am – Leave to visit Mikumi Village School with packed lunches 10:00 am – Arrive at Mikumi Village School and participate in activities 1:30 pm – Return to Mikumi Park (eat packed lunch on the bus on return journey) 2:00 pm – Bus leaves with drivers to collect Mikumi Village school children x 22 and 3 teachers 3.00pm – Mikumi Village children arrive at Vuma Hills – Icebreaker Activities 4:15 pm – Game Drive with Mikumi Village children 5:30 pm – Dinner and Mikumi Village children leave afterwards 6:15pm – Shower and change into longs 7:00 pm – Game Park Warden PowerPoint presentation and question/answer session 8:45 lights out Itinerary Day 2
Itinerary Day 3 6:00am - Wake-up 6:30 am - Breakfast 7:30 am - Depart for Udzungua with packed lunches. 10:00 am – 3:00 pm - Udzungua waterfall hike: biodiversity focus, medicinal plant study and identification. 3:00 – 4:00 pm - Return to Mikumi. 4:00 pm - Reading, painting, drawing, journal reflections and Banda time 6:30 pm – Dinner 7:30 pm - Class meeting/ Folktales/ Fact Files 8:30 pm - Lights out
Itinerary Day 4 • .6:00 am - Wake up and pack (optional game drive) • 6:45 am - Breakfast • 7:30 am - Return to IST • arrive at IST approximately 1:30 pm – Behind Grade 5 classrooms/ Teachers Car Park – Gate 7
Safety Precautions Each trip has 5 adults per 22 students:a school nurse, a Kiswahili speaker, as well as a male and female teacher Risk assessment form Medical information Askaris Bus plus extra minibus Two school drivers Communication (mobiles/emergency numbers)
What to Pack Packed lunch for Day 1 – including water bottle. Non-perishable healthy snacks for Days 2 -4 in a sealed bag or plastic container (so not to attract animals) Clothing that can be layered – enough clothing for 4 days; students are expected to change clothes daily. (t-shirts, sweater, long, comfortable pants, shorts, sneakers/walking shoes, sandals) nb. Avoid wearing royal blue, or black as this attracts tsetse flies. Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, deodorant, feminine hygiene products for girls); please do not pack perfumes or colognes; Students will be expected to wash everyday. Bath towel Insect repellent and sunscreen (please put names on these) Torch/flashlight A couple of good books Pencil with eraser and a pen, drawing/coloring Personal medication (malaria pills) Swimming suit/ towel Hat Water bottle and small cooler/lunch bag for snacks Small backpack or bag to bring onto bus for snacks, water, etc. Small change – around 10,000Tsh
Optional but useful Binoculars Camera MP3 with headphones for the ride to and from Mikumi Games (cards etc) Bird and wildlife identification books – highly recommended Book to read in chill out time! Students will be expected to take full responsibility for all personal items— Please label everything with your child’s name.
