US army contractor charged for taking Kuwait kickbacks - Politics & Economics - ArabianBusiness.com 4/7/2014 A military contractor based at a US Army-owned base in Kuwait was found guilty of taking kickbacks from a military supplier A military contractor who was based at a US Army-owned base in Kuwait has been sentenced to four months house arrest after he was found guilty of taking kickbacks from a military supplier, the US Department of Justice confirmed. Barry Szafran, who worked as a fire alarm manager at the US government-owned Camp Arifjan in Kuwait, was found guilty of accepting a free round-trip flight from Kuwait to the US from a US Army supplier in return for recommending it for a contract to supply fire equipment parts. “The investigation, which included an examination of SZAFRAN’s email communication, revealed that SZAFRAN had developed an unethical business relationship with a local parts vendor,” David B Fein, US Attorney for the District of Connecticut, said in a statement. Emails examined during the course of the investigation revealed that Szafran also provided details of competitors’ bid and pricing information to the supplier.
