  1. Gerald Schell is one of the world’s prominent minimally invasive spine surgeons Minimally invasive spine surgery is aimed at stabilizing the vertebral bones and spinal joints that are often a result of conditions such as spinal instability, herniated discs, and spinal tumors. Minimally invasive approaches can be faster, safer, and require less recovery time. These surgeries are performed as outpatient procedures and utilize only local anesthesia so that there is less risk for an adverse reaction to general anesthesia.

  2. Minimally invasive spine surgery is facilitated by utilizing a small incisions and guiding instruments through these incisions. It is an alternative to traditional open surgical procedures performed to treat different spinal disorders. Spine surgery that is performed minimally invasively offers many potential benefits including small incisions, less cutting through soft tissues, and less post-operative pain. You will be advised spine surgery if you have a back pain that has not gotten better with another treatment such as medicine or physical therapy. Your healthcare provider will only advise spine surgery if you have a type of problem that surgery may help. Being a neurosurgeon specialist, Dr. Gerald Schell has over 40 years of experience in the medical field. He has more experience with spine than other specialists in his area. He graduated from Michigan State University medical school in 1980. He is affiliated with medical facilities such as Ascension St Marys Hospital and Ascension Standish Hospital. Dr. Schell believes that the modern minimally invasive surgery techniques allow the spine surgeons to achieve the same goals of open surgery while minimizing the collateral damage associated with the open approaches. This less invasive surgery allows various benefits including faster recovery times, reduced infection and blood loss, and faster return to your regular lifestyle. Dr. Gerald Schellis one of the world’s prominent minimally invasive spine surgeons. He received his Doctor of medicine degree from Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine before completing a neurosurgical rotation at Syracuse University. The university later offered him the directorship of its neurosurgical training program, which he declined to continue caring for the needs of Michigan patients.
