  10. The Blaxploitation genre started began in the 1970s and saw black stars appear in what were mainly action thrillers with funk/soul soundtracks.

  11. Luke Cage A streetwise youth, the man called "Lucas" was sent to prison for a crime he did not commit. In exchange for parole, Lucas clandestinely underwent an experimental procedure, originally intended to generate immunity to all illness; instead, it inadvertently granted him steel-hard skin and heavier, enhanced muscle.

Black Lightning A gold medal-winning Olympic decathlete, Jefferson Pierce returned to his old neighborhood in the Southside (Suicide Slum) of the city of Metropolis, with his wife Lynn Stewart and his daughter Anissa to become the principal of Garfield High School. Southside as it was once known was where his father renowned journalist Alvin Pierce had been murdered. Guilt over this event was a factor in his decision to leave the city of Metropolis. Suicide Slum was being torn apart by a local organized criminal gang called the 100, so Pierce as the hero Black Lightning sets out to put things right.

  15. Milestone Comics founded in 1993 by a coalition of African-American artists and writers (namely Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Michael Davis and Derek T. Dingle) who believed that minorities were severely underrepresented in American comics. Milestone Media was their attempt to correct this imbalance.

  16. An intentionally patriotic creation who was often depicted fighting the Axis powers of World War II,Captain America was the alter ego of Steve Rogers. A sickly young man who was enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental serum in order to aid the United States war effort.   17. Isaiah Bradley The Black Captain America Isaiah Bradley was a character from the comic serial- Truth: Red, White & Black. He was a test subject forthe WWII Super Soldier program of 1942 which used African American test subjects to create the formula that would be used to turn Steve Rogers from skinny, but patriotic, army reject into Captain America. The clandestine experimentation that empowered Isaiah held similarities with the Tuskegee Syphilis Study.
