MISSION (DIRECTORATE OF INFRASTRUCTURE AND SERVICES) To facilitate, through strategic expertise, the provision of sufficient, integrated and efficient infrastructure and related services to support regional integration and poverty eradication.
RISDP • Provides strategic direction with respect to SADC programmes and activities. • Provides a comprehensive view of the SADC economic and social development policies and priorities over the next fifteen years.
ENERGY ACTIVITY PLAN A FRAMEWORK FOR ELABORATION OF A MORE DETAILED AND OPERATIONAL ACTIVITY PLAN.
ENERGY SECTOR OVERALL OBJECTIVE • to ensure the availability of sufficient, reliable, least cost energy services that will assist in the attainment of Economic efficiency and the Eradication of poverty whilst ensuring the Environmentally sustainable use of energy resources.
ENERGY SECTOR PRIORITIES • overcome the Diminished SADC Power Surplus Capacity, through the implementation of the SADC Energy Ministers Roadmap; • complete the Review and Update of SADC Energy Activity Plan; • service Energy Ministers Task Force and Energy Ministers Meetings; • sustain the Regional Energy Planning Network (REPN), particularly annual production of SADC Energy Statistical Year Book;
ENERGY SECTOR PRIORITIES (cont’d) • develop a Regional Strategy and Action Plan for Energy Access; • monitor and ensuring the timely implementation of SADC Energy projects, • Complete the study on the Establishment of Regional Petroleum and Gas Association (REPGA);
ENERGY SECTOR PRIORITIES (cont’d) • monitor and provide policy guidance in: • the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) Programme; and • the Regional Electricity Regulators Association (RERA) Programme;
ENERGY SECTOR PRIORITIES (cont’d) • Jointly Programme Projects with other Regional/ Inter-Regional Bodies (AU, COMESA, AEC, AFREC,NEPAD, ADB, etc); • coordinate the activities of the Regional Biofuels Taskforce; • Thematic Coordination and Resource mobilization
