What is Third Friday? Tarrytown Third Friday is a monthly arts, culture & commerce event in which participating shops and restaurants stay open late and offer discounts and special theme-related activities for residents and visitors alike. It is an upbeat, high-energy evening filled with music, crafts, games, art openings, tastings, on-street vendors, and community spirit. It’s tag line says it all: Re-Discover - Re-Connect - Re-Juvinate It’s good for business. It’s good for art. It’s good for tourism. It’s good for the community. And it’s good for the soul!
Is Your Town Ready? • Ample shops and restaurants • Active chamber, BID or business association • Supportive local government • Diverse mix of cultural and community groups/organizations • Residents that like to contribute, support and get involved with their community • Other supportive cultural, recreational and social draws
The Right Team / Pulling a Committee Together • High-energy, community-oriented person to produce, oversee, and manage the event • Representatives from the Chamber, the Recreation Dept., the Village, and local businesses to serve on a committee that plans, promotes and cares about the event • Involvement from the Arts Council, various community groups, area schools, & seniors groups • Handful of dedicated volunteers • An Angel Investor if possible!

Also provided Rec. staff to set up tables, chairs, & tents. Setting up a bank account & becoming a 501C3
Attracting Merchants / Attracting Tablers • Let’s Make A Night of it! • It’s not about making a dollar - - - it’s about making a buzz and bringing them back to town • The benefits for the nominal cost • Working together: “All for one” approach • Themes help attract tablers (fees) Note: Can’t stop people from participating who haven’t paid dues or fees - can only highlight benefits of officially “being on board”.
Create Monthly Themes • Halloween • Harvest • Pet Theme (Pet Parade) • Holiday (Live ice sculpting) • Mardi Gras • Chocolate • Health & Wellness • Back to School • Earth Day (Town-wide clean up) Some should repeat, and some should be new each year.
Promoting & Marketing Your Event • Monthly printed schedule available at downtown establishments, schools, etc. • Ads in local papers / calendar listings • On all local free online event calendars • Banners, signs, posters & window decals the week before the event • Balloons the night of the event • Word of mouth - Talk it up! • Listed on Chamber, Village & merchant websites • Magnets with web address and monthly dates • AS MUCH PRESS AS POSSIBLE!!
Cross-Promoting & Add-Ons • A monthly town event is an opportunity for everybody - cross promote and more people learn about the event • Piggy Back - add new and other events to the main event. In our case: Taste of Tarrytown & Holiday Coupon Book • Work together to spread the word and back each other up. Examples: YMCA at Tarrytown, Music Hall, & Sante Fe
