Background • SFR and GGCNHS both reported anecdotal evidence of dangerous practices within the homes of refugee/ asylum seekers. • Multi agency partnership and steering group formed to facilitate, develop and implement innovative programmes to convey safety messages
ITS Glasgow • Project to inform refugee and asylum seekers about general safety. • Project consisted of safety packs containing advice on home safety, fire safety and personal safety. • Production of Safety First DVD and other resources to support and promote the project. • Focus groups with refugees and asylum seekers.
Project outcomes • 200 DVD’s produced and delivered to schools, LHO’s, NHS, various community groups. • Multi- agency training delivered across partner agencies. • 5,000 Tea towels delivered to various locations. • Peer educators identified. • Open day at Springburn Fire Station • Project evaluated independently. • COSLA Bronze awarded for good practise.
Project development • ESOL and PEER education packs developed for SE Glasgow, funded by SE CPP Fairer Scotland Fund. • Project co-ordinator in place to develop both ESOL and PEER packs and promote the integration through safety. • Packs completed, piloted and evaluated.
