NSCC History • Navy asked U.S. Navy League for help in 1958 • 1962 Public Law 87-655 Charter • Navy League’s Relationship • 1974 Amendment to 87-655 allowed females to join • Other veteran groups and organizations can co-sponsor NSCC units
The NSCC Organization • Naval Sea Cadet Corps Program for ages 13 to 17 years old • Navy League Cadet Corps Program for ages 10 to 14 years old
NSCC Organization (Cont.)Program Objectives • Imbue a sense of patriotism, courage, self-reliance, and confidence • Develop an interest and skills in seamanship and seagoing disciplines • Teach the importance of our oceans and their importance in world affairs • Develop an interest in our maritime forces histories, customs, and traditions
NSCC Organization (Cont.) • Surface Divisions, Air Squadrons, and Seabee Battalions are basic NSCC units • NLCC units are Training Ships and Augmentation Companies • All units have adult staffs and instructors • NSCC/NLCC Regional Directors

Naval Sea Cadets • Must be a U.S. Citizen due to 911 • No felony arrests • Be less than 18 years of age • No disqualifying physical or mental conditions due to training environments • Maintain C grades or better in school academics

NSCC/NLCC Cadet Uniforms • Allowed to wear modified Navy uniforms • Must have shoulder NSCC flashes on sleeves • Achievement Ribbons and Brest Badges
Unit Adult Leadership • Must be U. S. Citizens or Resident Aliens • Ages 21 to 55 years old • Waivers for over 55 granted by NSCC National Headquarters Executive Director • Must clear a criminal background check • Must maintain a service record with unit and which is archived at the NSCC NHQ • Weight standards less stringent than military

NSCC/NLCC Training • National Training Contingents are one to • two weeks in duration • Orders for National Training Contingents • issued by National Headquarters • Locally arranged training contingents usually • with local ashore and afloat military commands • Department of Navy and Marine Corps • appropriations help fund costs to cadets • Travel funding provided by parents and units
NSCC Recruit Training • Enrolled inNSCC for at least 6 weeks • Be 14-years of age prior to September 1st of • training year • Pass physical fitness test prior to attending • training • Complete Navy Basic Military Requirements • (BMR) Non-Residence Correspondence Course • Obtain uniform items (Sea Bag) and comply with • directives in orders
NSCC Advanced Training • Successfully complete NSCC Recruit Training and BMR Requirement • Be 14-years of age • Unit & NHQ administrative and assignment to duty orders are complete • Adult escort requirements are met • Possess required uniform items (Sea Bag List) and comply with directives in orders

What Does the NSCC Provide? • Focused and disciplined individuals who have completed • E-3 and above advancements • Young citizens who appreciate the value of our sea services • even if a military service is not their career • A means of experiencing the military without a commitment • to join • Advancement review boards experience • NSCC advancements, leadership, and training a large • resume bullet for academy entrance and NROTC • scholarship applications • Advanced pay grade in a military service if advancement • history as E-3 and above
CGAUX/NSCC MOU • Defines cooperation and procedures between our two non-profit organizations • Encourages CGAUX to provide training opportunities for cadets • Sets governing guidelines regarding each organization’s regulations and operating procedures • Defines funding separation and liability and risk management • Sets NSCC cadet and adult participation guidelines
