  1. Akhilesh Srivastava – The Man behind the Successful Execution Of Fastag Project Governments around the world are using advanced technology to solve their infrastructural woes. The Indian government is also envisioning the use of modern technology for infrastructure by integrating it into the nation’s highways sector, and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), under the supervision of Akhilesh Srivastava, has been instrumental in fleshing out this vision. Mr Akhilesh Srivastava, Chief General Manager of the IT & Highway Operations division of the NHAI, has implemented cutting-edge technological projects such as FASTag-powered Electronic Toll Collection (ETC), Advanced Traffic Incident Management System (ATMS), and Road Asset Management System (RAMS). The introduction of ETC in the highways sector is being considered a revolutionary move by the NHAI. FASTag is an encoded sticker that works on the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. The code fetches government- mandated tariffs from the plaza, and is affixed to the windscreens of automobiles. Whenever a FASTag-affixed vehicle passes through an ETC lane, the onboard Automatic Vehicle Detection system reads the code, generates the invoice, and deducts the fee instantly. The commuter only needs to purchase the FASTag sticker and link it to their personal bank accounts. The sticker is pasted on the vehicles’ windscreens. The collection process doesn’t require human intervention, and reduces the halting time at Toll complexes, providing seamless travel experience to commuters. The Central government has made it mandatory for every new vehicle purchased after November 2017 to have FASTag stickers. The government has asked the NHAI to develop at least one dedicated ETC lane on either side of each Toll plaza operated by the NHAI. The work has already begun as NHAI CGM Akhilesh Srivastava passed executive orders to his division to put the project on fast track. Apart from decongesting Toll plazas, the ETC Toll collection system also can help the NHAI in analysing traffic data for clear insights on the flow of traffic on national highways and plan future projects. #AkhileshSrivastava #FASTag #RFIDTechnology #ETC
