  4. SERMON SPOTLIGHT • The words of the LORD through Zechariah were meant to quiet the troubled hearts and strengthen the wounded spirits of the people in their work of rebuilding the temple.

  5. SERMON SPOTLIGHT • The church is also living in dark and troublesome times. The church needs the encouragement and strengthening that comes from the “crying out” of the message of God given in the Bible.

  17. WHAT ZECHARIAH SAW 1:8 • Zechariah saw a man with a red horse ride into a grove of myrtle treesaccompanied by other horsemen mounted on horses of various colors and shades.

  23. WHAT ZECHARIAH SAW 1:9 • Zechariah observed an attending angel who was apparently in the grove with the horsemen, but probably not one of the horsemen.

  28. WHAT ZECHARIAH WAS TOLD BY THE RIDER OF THE RED HORSE 1:10 • The man with the red horse explained to Zechariah that he and his crew were tasked to patrol the whole world and to report back to the LORD.

  36. WHAT THE ANGEL ASKED THE LORD 1:12 • The attending angel asked the LORD to explain why was Jerusalem and the cities of Judah still in shambles, seeing that the 70 years of God’s discipline upon Israel had been completed.

  42. WHAT THE LORD SAID TO THE ANGEL 1:13 • The LORD answered the angel with “gracious and comforting words.” • These words were not reported by Zechariah in the story and remain a mystery.

  45. WHAT ZECHARIAH WAS TO “CRY OUT” 1:14-15 • The LORD is “exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion.” • The Lord is “exceedingly angry with the nations that are at ease…they furthered the disaster [upon the Jerusalem and the Jewish people].”
