Brazil – Oil & Gas Sector • Brazil – among Oil and Gas Majors. • Discoveries of large deep sea deposits in “pre-salt” oil fields off the Brazilian coast may hold up to 60-80 billion barrels of recoverable light crude. Based on the above assumptions - Brazil's oil reserves would jump from 17th largest to 5th largest in the world. • Infrastructure investments in excess of $400 billion will be required to explore these oil fields over the next 10 years, according to Brazil’s National Oil Agency (ANP). Potential winners include oil service providers, Petrobras international partners such as ONGC and others, and manufacturers of oil industry equipment and supplies. • The Brazilian oil giant announced its 2009-2013 business plan which includes US$175 billion in new investment, US$50 billion more than previously announced. The news was greeted with enthusiasm by oil service and supply companies, which have seen other major international oil projects, cut back on investment elsewhere. • Oil consumption between 2010 and 2020 is set to increase by 25.8%.
