  1. 10-1 Simplifying Rational Expressions 9P12:Simplify rational expressions

  2. Remember Can only simplify whole binomials or trinomials that are equal- not in parts!! Ex1: Ex 2: Binomials here do not cancel. If you put a number in for x, you do not get the same numerator and denominator ≠1 !! Binomials that match will cancel because no matter what you put in for x, you get the same numerator and denominator =1 !!!

  3. Example 3 Monomial Reduce Monomial To reduce (divide) exponents-subtract

  4. GCF Example 4) Binomial Can’t be reduced further Monomial

  5. Example 5 GCF We can’t cancel parts of binomial so we are done

  6. The numerator Difference of squares Example 6 Don’t forget your factor flowchart to help factor binomials and trinomials Remember to turn trinomial back to FOIL

  7. Example 7 Learn the -1 trick!! If binomials have the right coefficients but opposite sign factor out a -1

  8. Example 8

  9. Example 9
