What is Acid Rain? • Acid Rain is rainfall that is contaminated with pollution, causing it to have high levels of acid (low pH).
What causes Acid Rain? • Acid Rain is caused when particles of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide mix with water particles. The water particles in the rain are precipitated, thus causing environmental and health problems.
Effects of Acid Rain On Buildings: • Acid Rain erodes the materials made with buildings, thus making the building unstable, which can cause it to collapse. On Bodies of Water: • Acid rain contaminates bodies of water when the precipitated acid water falls into them, causing it hard to find fresh water and sea animals die from living in harmful conditions. On Soil and Plant Life: • Acid rain contaminates the soil, making it hard to grow plants because they can’t survive in acidic soil condition, as well that it is dangerous to eat plants grown in acidic soil.
How to Prevent Acid Rain Ways to resolve the problems caused by Acid Rain are: • Restoring a damaged environment- This will help because there will be less area that is damaged by Acid Rain. • Using Alternative Energy Resources- This will help because less pollutants will be released into our atmosphere, causing less Acid Rain to be made. • Carpool, bike or use public transport- This will help because there will be less pollutants released from combustion in cars.
