  2. Our Approach • We believe in healthy eating in schools • We have the support of the Director of Education and right down the line • We work in partnership with NHS, Soil Association, Local Suppliers and Local Projects.

  3. Gradual Approach • to making school meals healthier since 2002 e.g. chip free days, restriction of processed food, fruit and milk based puddings, oily fish

  4. Well placed • to implement H4S and then the Act

  5. Partnership working • through Health Promoting Schools and Your Choice to Healthy Living e.g: • Schools Food & Health Policy, • Fruit & Veg Promotions, • SNAGs, • Food for Life • 3 pieces of Guidance,

  6. Staff Development • Cooks training e.g. getting the cooks to believe in what they are being asked to do • Cooks involvement in menu planning and design

  7. Primary & Secondary Uptake- Scotland / Highland -12.3% +1.6% +12.2% -4.3%

  11. Conclusion • We continue to believe in Healthy Eating in schools as part of cultural change • We need the support of Head Teachers • We need partnership working to impact on the food culture beyond the school gate
