First Meeting of the Inner Detector Steering Group (since quite some time):Kick-off Meeting Scope and Purpose of the Meeting ChristophRembser, 16 March 2011
New ID management structure since 3/2011 • Main change: ID PL is one of the 3 subsystem PLs • Reduced management team, 3 instead of 4 people • Consequences: • Need help and support from the ID community; • Share work • Items now assigned to the subsystems (see document): • Pixels • Beam condition activities; • SR1; • Service quarter panels; • IBL assembly. • SCT • Evaporative cooling; • Heater pads; • Cable cooling; • Environmental gas; • TRT • Environmental sensors.
New ID management structure since 3/201 • Collaborative issues • General risk analyses; • New plate heat exchangers to replace evaporative heaters. • Shared work by the PLs: OTP, finances, spendings, interaction with speakers committee & IB, qualification tasks… ID is a lucky community!!! 3 PLs to take care and 4 budgets ;o)
The IDSG • Forum focussing on detector operation, upgrades, software, performance…; • Discuss/follow-up (critical) items; • Forum for the PLs to get advise, help, support, (criticism); • Regular meeting every 3-4 months; • Members: IB Chairs, System RunCo’s, Software & Combined Performance Group Conveners, representative of the ATLAS management (Dave Charlton), PLs; • Depending on topic/needs/urgence: • Additional meetings; • More colleagues (experts) involved; Need your expertise, judgment, input, initiative! Don’t hesitate to contact one of the PLs if you see issues to be discussed!
Challenges • Combining sub-system shifts and tools; • See slide by Steve; • Preparation of the 2012 shutdown; • How to keep community interested and motivated in ID “service work”? • How to keep expertise, especially in view of the long shutdown? More points to add? Your input is welcome!
ID Shift Merging: General • A Common Consensus • We believe it is universally agreed we should try and merge ID - ACR shifts (SCT,TRT,PIX). • We know where we want to go but we are not yet sure how to get there. • Timescales • We have told our respective communities that we will try to do this by the end of July. • To do be able to realize this (organize shifts, complete training etc) we need to have informed our respective communities at least 2 months iebefore 31st May. • If, for what ever reason, we cannot do this we also need to inform them at the same time that SCT, PIX and TRT shifts will continue after July. • Next Stage • A cross training exercise to be completed by 7th April. • One representative (with considerable operational experience) from each of the 3 subsystems (PIX,SCT and TRT and the people they represent) will be invited to complete the training for the other two systems. • A briefing document will be written outlining what we are looking for and this will include complete (3 system combination) or partial (2 system combinations) . It could also include hybrid solutions where we have 1 person on shift normally and more at peak times. • Following the cross-training exercise we will meet to discuss what can and cannot be realized by the end of July and this would then form the basis of the plan for the period up merging. • It is clear that we need to keep the community informed throughout the period.
Some News • No ID week in June, next ID week in October 2011; • Skip weekly ID Run Meetings; • Keep time slot; • Would appreciate if Rusty could continue to provide OPM notes.
