8 Count! • Dances are performed on an 8 count • You should always count when performing a dance • All dances should be learned by breaking down the steps by counts of 8 • There are some exceptions to the rule!
DANCE STEPS • Side Step • Step to the R side, together, L side, together • Chasse • Moving forward/sideways step together step R, step together step L: 1 and 2, 3 and 4 • Similar to skipping Releve- Tip toes
DANCE STEPS CONT. • PIVOT • R foot step, turn left, R foot step, turn left (keep the L foot planted) 1, 2, 3, 4 • KICK BALL-CHANGE • Kick, step, step: 1 and 2 • JAZZ SQUARE • Step over with the R, step back with the L, out with the R, and together: 1, 2, 3, 4
DANCE STEPS CONT. • HEEL TAP • Tap your heel to the floor in front of you • TOE TOUCH W/ TURN • Quarter turn with each toe touch: 1, 2, 3, 4 • PAS DE BOUREE • Small stepping movement: 1 and 2
DANCE STEPS CONT. • GRAPEVINE • Step out w/R, behind with the L, out with the R, step together w/L and clap 1, 2, 3, 4 • CHAINE TURN • Turn R or L similar to Grapevine w/clap: 1, 2, 3, 4 • SLIDE TO THE L/R • Step out with one foot and drag the other until they meet: 1, 2
Attitude • A position in which the dancer stands on one leg (known as the supporting leg) while the other leg (working leg) is lifted and well turned out with the knee bent at approximately 120-degree angle. • The lifted or working leg can be behind, in front, or on the side of the body.
