  1. Writing Workshop Description of a Person

  2. Intro • Body 1 • Body 2 • Conclusion • Working in and out of class through Thursday next week. Step Up To Writing

  3. Someone I know well and can write about: • A past experience: a flashback in Body 1 • A prediction for the future from a clue: foreshadowing in Body 2 • Someone from my past that will go into the future • Family, friends, teachers, coaches • A close, lengthy relationship • Someone I respect as a person • Someone who has affected me in my life/choices • Someone interesting: engage the reader/ enjoy my writing How do I choose my person to describe?

  4. Introduction Example 1: • When I was young, my mother always used to say, “get A’s and hundreds!” This shows her value for education and knowledge. My mother is a reader at heart, and she emphasized to me how important reading was. My mother is someone who I value dearly, and her influence on me will help to form my future endeavors. Quotation Introductions

  5. Introduction Example 2 • The sixteenth century English philosopher and writer, Sir Francis Bacon, said, “knowledge is power.” This idea reminds me of someone I know closely: my mom. I respect her as a person. She has affected my past, and will affect my future. Quotation Introductions

  6. Body 1 yellow: What makes this chosen flashback important? Body 2 yellow: How did this person affect you? • Body 1 Red: • Elaborate about the flashback, be specific and write about one particular time you remember with this chosen person. • Body 2 Red: • How will this affect on you influence your future? Body Paragraphs

  7. Conclusion Example: • Clearly, my mother has had quite an impact on my life and will affect me in my future. I hope I can achieve these goals I’ve predicted. Maybe someday a fascinating memoir about students at SBCS will be featured for purchase at Barnes and Noble! Conclusions
