  1. Writing Workshop Objective: To review the writing process (planning, drafting, revision, editing) and various stages by conducting a writer’s workshop to complete a well-developed multi-genre presentation of culture

  2. What is the Assignment Asking? • Look at handouts: • Blue assignment sheet • White essential question sheet • GOPHERS graphic organizer

  3. Planning through Quickwrites • Sometimes the best way to get started is to just get started. • Give yourself permission to ramble, spell incorrectly, run off the lines, basically write garbage…but write!! • Write through any blocks you have by repeating an idea in a new way, copying a quotation from a sources, or jumping to something completely different that comes to mind.

  4. Quickwrite (5 minutes) • The dictionary defines culture as: • (n) the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively. • Through your new understanding of culture, clarify what is missing and address the essential question: “How does culture shape, impact, and influence our understandings and perceptions? (books, symbols, movies, conversations, education…)

Rules for Drafting • Write, write, write!! • You should have 2-4 pages filled by the end of the period. • Allow yourself to be creative with spelling and grammar. • Keep your thoughts moving forward. You can always come back and edit for spelling and grammar. • If you don’t know the exact word or the English word, use a word you know. • Keep your thoughts moving forward. You can always come back and revise for that perfect word. • References: Class notes, handouts, texts/passages, and discussions You may replay your interview or listen to music on your individual headphones—you may not share headphones.
