VPO is responsible for the planning and detailing of the fit-out, technology and telecommunications requirements for the Venue Media Centres (VMCs) at each competition and non-competition site in Vancouver and Whistler, with the exception of the MPC • Facilities and services include press workrooms, press tribunes, mixed zones, press conference rooms, media lounges • Vancouver - 6 competition venues - 5 non-competition venues • Whistler - 3 competition venues - 3 non-competition venues Venue Press Operations - Overview
Opening Dates • VMC’s will open on the first day of athlete training at each venue Hours of Operation • City competition and non-competition venues - Competition = 3 hrs before and 3 hrs post competition - Training = 0 hrs before and 1 hr post • Mountain competition and non-competition venues - Competition = 3 hrs before and 4 hrs post competition - Training = 0 hrs before and 1 hr post Capacities • All VMCs have been planned to the requested IOC Capacities for workroom, tribune (tabled, non-tabled), mixed zone, press conference room, media lounge and photo positions Venue Media Centres - Operations
The Photo Services sub-function is charged with the planning, organizing and managing of all areas and services dedicated to photographers. Specifically the Photo Services Team manages: Photo Services Centre (MPC and Whistler) Photo work areas Photo positions • Photo positions have been identified in all venues as well as captured in CAD drawings Photo Services - Overview
Photo Services Centres Will include camera servicing by Canon and Nikon and other digital photographic services Technology Photo Services held a proof of concept test at the World Cup Alpine Skiing event in Whistler. Photographers were able to file directly from the ski hill with wired and wireless connections over VANOC’s Fibre channels. Pictures flowed from the ski hill to the internet at 2 megabytes a second using a custom built technology sled. IOPP AFP, Reuters and the Associated Press will form an International Olympic Photo Pool for the first time at a Winter Olympic Games Photo Services - Key Facts
The Olympic News Service (ONS) is responsible for the management, collection, production and distribution of news and information to the Olympic Family, the main clients being the accredited media Mission: To provide the media with a balanced, unbiased Games information service Goal: To quickly deliver accurate, objective and timely news items, designed to assist accredited media with their Games coverage Principles: ONS news will be presented without bias or favor, and will be independent of all external influence The ONS Team: ONS is run by experienced, professional journalists and technical experts to ensure accuracy, consistency and timeliness Olympic News Service - Overview
The primary means of distributing news and information is via the Games-time intranet Info2010, which will feature: Games Results Games News (Previews, Reviews, News Articles, Flash Quotes, Press Conference Highlights) Biographies Medals Schedules Background Records Transportation Weather Message Board Info2010

The Press Services sub-function represents the interface between Press Operations and other VANOC functions that provide services to the written and photographic press The Press Services team manages: Accommodation Accreditation Editorial Services Rate Card Transportation Press Services - Overview
IOC quota for “E” category accreditations in 2010 will be 2,800 2010 press accreditation process officially started in Feb. 2008 when IOC notified NOCs of their quota allocation Press by Number process starts Oct. 12, 2008 Press by Name process starts June 12, 2009 OIAC cards distributed by VANOC in Nov. 2009 Press Accreditation - Timeline
Press accommodation for 2010 will be: Hotels in Vancouver Apartments and 3-stars-hotels in Whistler No media villages 1,800 rooms for the press in Vancouver/Whistler (more than 90% secured): 1,100 in Vancouver 700 in Whistler Detailed description of press hotel properties, minimum-stay requirements, booking deadlines, rates and payment timelines available in the Press Accommodation Guide in Oct. 2008.
