This course covers Units 1-9 of the Algebra 1/2 curriculum, including Quantities, Functions, Linear Systems, Quadratic Equations, and more. Students must achieve a cumulative grade for high school credit. Retakes are available for unit tests with completion of specific requirements. Additional resources and tutoring options provided.

High School Credit (Honors Level Class) Students will be earning high school credit upon successful completion of this course. It is imperative that students work hard as they start off their high school academic career. In addition, the grade earned will become part of the student’s high school GPA. As aligned with high school curricula, grades are cumulative for the semester. At the quarter, a progress check grade will be given, but credit is based on the cumulative semester grade.
High School Algebra 1/2 Curriculum • Semester 1 • Unit 1: Quantities and Modeling • Unit 2: Understanding Functions • Unit 3: Linear Functions, Equations, and Inequalities • Unit 5: Linear Systems and Piecewise-Defined Functions • Unit 6: Exponential Relationships • Semester 2 • Unit 7: Polynomial Operations • Unit 8: Quadratic Functions • Unit 9: Quadratic Equations and Modeling • Unit 4: Statistical Models • Unit 5 continued: Piecewise-Defined Functions
Grades 70% • Tests • Quizzes • Projects 20% • Semester Final • 10% • Homework • Classwork
Retake Policy • Students have the choice to retake Unit Tests within 2 weeks of being entered into Power School. Retakes will be given during tutoring/RTI. The highest score will be recorded in the gradebook. Quizzes, projects and semester finals are not eligible for retakes. • Students must complete the following to be eligible to retake the unit tests: • ·Completed Test corrections: Using a different color, answer the question correctly on the test, and explain your original mistake. • ·All homework must have been completed and turned in before the original unit test.
ISN • Lesson Notes • Students are expected to keep legible and updated • Students are able to use this resource during quizzes and projects • Turn in for a semester grade
HMH Homework • Assigned Nightly on HMH (accessed through the portal) • Expectations: • Complete on time to reinforce concepts learned in class • Submit answers on HMH • Show evidence on paper and store in Algebra folder (random evidence checks) • Answers only will not result in full credit • Completed after unit test will result in no credit, but can help students prepare for semester final
Absences • Students are responsible for all missed work • Call reliable friend • Check Teacher Calendar & Google Classroom for slides and assignments • Complete student interactive lesson on HMH (great resource when absent or needing extra assistance) • Complete HMH homework & update notes
Maternity Leave • Approximately September 9th – December 2nd • Mrs. Nichols is excited to share her middle school and high school math experience with students • Tutoring/Retakes: Mondays-Thursdays from 12:15-12:45 with Mrs. Nichols • Additional Tutoring: Mrs. Augustinovich is offering tutoring to Algebra students during her before/after school tutoring times. Students will need to check her website and/or classroom board for days and times. Mrs. A has taught high school math for many years!
