  2. 2013 Goals • The JGC asked the VGS to reword the goal related to the Demand Response Task Force • The VGS changed the goal to read • “Monitor and Follow the SPSC Demand Response Task Force”

  3. VGS Study: Intra-hour Scheduling • Completed March 2013 • Email notice sent out to VGS and TEPPC lists • PNNL report on BA cooperation is still under review and is expected to be published soon • Link

  4. VG Planning Reference Book • Completed May 2013 • Divided into two documents: • Main body • Extended appendices • Thanks to Yuri Makarov and his team at PNNL • Thanks to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability • Link

  5. VG Operating Reserves Task Force • At the last OC meeting, a task force was created to evaluate various operating reserve calculation methodologies for variable generation resources. • The task force will report to the OC full scope of the their effort by July 16. • General Objectives: • Step 1: Review of current and proposed methods for reserve requirements (continuation of VGS initiative) • Step 2: Use requirements in simulation models and compare ACE and cost metrics among selected methods • Step 3: Analyze results to see what influences need • Step 4: Determine if new reserve requirement method is appropriate for recommendation

  6. Demand Response Task Force • Led by SPSC, chaired by Carl Linvill • Tasks include: • a summary of leading research in this field; • proposed research project based on gaps found in current research by others; • execution of a specific research project following TF approval; • final report intended to facilitate DR as a resource in integrating VER. • The project will span 6-7 months, targeted for completion by year end.

  7. Future Meetings • Next VGS meeting will be Fall 2013 • Date no selected yet

  8. WECC Staff Changes • Matt Hunsaker will be changing roles at WECC • Working closer with OC • Additional OC staff changes • New job opening has been posted to work with the VGS.
