Grade 1 Really wow!

1. Grade 1 Really wow! Term 2 Hello everyone! Our integrated topic “Superheroes” is now in full swing. The students have been very busy exploring the different characters and how they help people. It is also providing our students with lots of opportunities to explore their own skills and special powers and the different ways they help each other. Mother’s Day! Don’t forget Sunday is Mother’s Day! This week the students have been busy making cards and presents for their lovely mums. This afternoon we also had a special Pampering afternoon – it was great to see so many mums and special people at school being pampered by our caring students! • Homework • The children should all be bringing home their homework each week. The students have been very enthusiastic about the homework and the standard of work coming back to school is fantastic – keep it up!. • Don’t forget: • Remember that it is very important for your child to continue to read each night. • Students are to learn spelling words or sight words as well as choosing ONE activity from each of the three sections – English, Maths and Personal Learning. • Any questions about the homework please ask your childs’ teacher. • Literacy Tip: • Writing • Read interesting stories (fiction and nonfiction) and poetry aloud to your child regardless of your child’s age. • Reading aloud exposes children to vocabulary and language they may not yet be able to read independently.  • Children need to “hear” literary language before they can use it in their own writing. • Jenny Norman From the Grade 1 team - Pam, Amy C, Amy B, Paul, Dan, Hayley, Jenny, Aisha and Katie
