About Me • I was born in Wauseonand graduated from Wauseon High School • I graduated from Trine University in May 2013 • I enjoy art, watching and playing sports, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends • I’m a HUGE Ohio State fan…Go Bucks! =)
Standards/Standardized Tests • The curriculum this year will be based on the Indiana Department of Education’s standards for Biology I. • These can be found on the DOE website (www.doe.in.gov). • Beginning next school year, sophomores will have to pass the Biology ECA in order to graduate. • Next year, I will be aligning my curriculum to prepare students for this. • This year, the curriculum will be in transition to reach that point.
Rules • Respect others, including me, other students, and other teachers/staff members • No profanity • No sexual comments • No put-downs or rude comments • Listen when someone is speaking • Respect the classroom, equipment, and materials • Books, lab equipment, desks, computers
Consequences • First time – warning • Second time – talk with me outside class • Third time – detention and parents notified • Fourth time – Saturday school
Bullying • Bullying will NOT be tolerated in my classroom. This includes the following: • Causing physical harm to another student. • Name-calling or putting another student down in any way. • If I see or hear about any cyber-bullying, I am required to report it and WILL DO SO.
Grading • 90-100% A • 80-89% B • 70-79% C • 60-69% D • ≤ 59% F • Based on points earned for assignments, quizzes, tests, labs, projects, and papers
Technology Security • Whenever technology is used in this class, I WILL be monitoring the students’ activity on that technology. • Students who choose to use technology for purposes other than what they are to be working on in class will lose technology privileges.
Assistance for School Supplies • I want every student in my classes to succeed, and school supplies are necessary for this. • I know school supplies and textbooks are expensive, and I do not ever want a student to be lacking these things because of financial issues. • If assistance is needed to pay for school supplies, please contact me.
Students are expected to… • Be on time • Submit work on time • Come to class ready to participate • Bring all materials to class • Pencils/pens, notebook, binder/folder • Books – when told to have them • Always do their best “I can accept failure; everyone fails at something. I will… • Make time to help students outside of class • Trust students until they give me a reason to do otherwise • Respect students • Grade and return assignments, tests, and other workin a timely manner • Work together with students to achieve our goals • Do everything I can to make this class fun • Create opportunities for high-ability learners to be challenged I believe… • Every student can learn • Every student can succeed • It is my responsibility to help every student succeed
