What is CWE?Cooperative Work Experience • Often called an internship • A chance to: • Apply skills learned in the program • Learn new skills • Create a work history/referral/network • A requirement for certificate and degree • A college level class with performance requirements, evaluations, and issued grade.
What CWE is Not! • Not a class to fill out credit requirements for financial aid or other program. • Not free labor for employers • Not an easy class with no performance requirements • Not a permanent job
How do I get started? • Placement proposals come from you, or from industry through your instructors. • Complete the required forms, obtain signatures • Turn in forms and request registration • Start work only after registration is confirmed!
What does the student do during a CWE? • Perform the work as per supervisor’s instructions • Keep instructor advised • Maintain timesheets and reports • Contact instructor with any concerns or questions • Coordinate a site visit by instructor • Each credit requires a minimum of 33 clock hours • You only earn the number of credits you are registered into, regardless of how many hours worked.
During your Placement…. • Make a folder and notebook or binder to keep your copies, employment information, work samples, etc. • Email a weekly report to instructor. • Keep a journal to assist in writing your report.
Three levels of CWE: CT180- Field position –carpenter, survey assistant, CAD draftperson CT280- Management duties estimating, supervision, coordination, design CT280 Capstone Client/Consultant relationship

Remember to: • Turn in forms and confirm registration before you start placement • Email Instructor each week • Turn in a final report • Turn in a Supervisors Final Evaluation • BE SAFE!
