  2. eLearning for International Markets Experiences form Leonardo da Vinci Projects GreTel and BATCOS

  3. eLearning – an international product? • Vocational training and education is loosening its local ties and developing to become an export article. • eLearning products as such are international products: they can be used any time and at any place • Requirements for international elearning offers are highly underestimated

  4. Economicalfacts supporting the internationalisation of eLearning products • Rather low running costs compensate for the relatively high investments for development in advance. • The durability of the contents of vocational training and education is continuously decreasing. It is the multiple use of eLearning products within a short period of time that justifies high development costs. • International markets offer better opportunities to make use of those scale effects.

  5. Requirements for international elearning offers are highly underestimated • Offering translated WBT on the learning platform of a provider is not enough • eLearning products that are developed in a specific culture cannot be applied in other cultures merely by translating them

  6. Global competition in eLearning • European providers have a relatively week position on international eLearning markets • Providers from northern America benefit from competitive advantages on the European Market: • English as the lingua franca • Product development for large markets

  7. Chances of European eLearning providers • On the other hand European providers are faced with various advantages, too: • Good reputation of European Vocational Training Institutions • Wide ranging experience in training and cultural variety These advantages are not being used in a sufficient way for exportation of vocational training and education.

  8. Conclusion • Collaboration of European eLearning experts is therefore essential for enhancing the quality of eLearning products and meeting the challenges of international competition.

  9. Collaboration amongst European experts • In the frame of the LEONARDO projects GreTel and BATCOS eLearning experts from various European countries work together to tap the full European potential. • The experience acquired by this collaboration is being applied to the development of cross-cultural eLearning modules.

  10. Partners form Czech Republic, Germany, Italy and United Kingdom developed a wide range of courses for management improvement in SME: • Information and Communication Technology in Business Practice • Business Administration • Project Management • Production Processes

  11. The cooperation results are represented by courses using texts, figures and schemes but also animations and videos for the material presentation. • Contents of the created courses and examples from the CD version can be found at the website http://athena.zcu.cz/batcos

Adaptability • Integrated author program  enables trainers and tutors to create and modify eLearning tasks and progress tasks.  allows learning modules and progress tests to be adapted flexibly to discrete learning situations and specific target groups. • Easy usage - requires relatively low levels of technical skills.
