2. Cottage Assignment After intake is complete and resident is assigned a cottage ALL their belongings need to be taken with them to the cottage
The Supervisor, Shift Leader, or next Senior staff is responsible for getting the resident settled with all proper documentation completed
3. Getting Resident Settled All medications brought with resident needs to be logged and placed in medication closet
Resident needs to be assigned a bedroom
All belongings need to be sorted and inspected with resident present
Items resident are permitted to keep in room need to be placed there
Other personal items need to be properly documented and stored
4. What They Can Have
Items that can be kept by resident
2 pair of pajamas, 1 pair of house shoes
Six pair of socks and six pair of underwear
5. Items They Cannot Have Items that cannot be accessible and must be stored
Cell Phones and other electronic devices
Jewelry
Street clothing and shoes
Toys, books, pictures, letters
Pens, Markers, Notepads
*Any other items not previously approved
6. Proper Storage of Personal Property Fill out Personal Property Inventory sheet and make sure resident agrees and signs the form
Place all items in tote with residents name placed on top in plastic sleeve
Seal tote
Store tote in attic or other storage area designated for that cottage.
7. Storage of Property (cont.) 5. If a resident brings in boxes, suitcases, or any other large items or there is need for more than one tote then each one needs to be labeled with residents name in a sleeve and how many different totes, etc. that are theirs

9. Proper Filing of Documents A copy of the inventory sheet needs to be placed in the Resident Inventory Binder in your staff office
If Resident changes cottages and their stored belongings are moved with them a COPY of the inventory form needs to be sent to the other cottage and filed in their binder
The original copy must be kept at the cottage they first entered in to in order to maintain proper records
10. Why Bother? Why go through so much work?
Why not just throw it in a box without logging each item?
How Important is it?
11. T.R.U.S.T. T for Thoughtfulness- shows the residents you think enough of them to bother

Trust is something so few of them are used to experiencing
17. Trust is Earned Start to form a trust relationship with the resident that will carry through the rest of their treatment so that you can continue to EARN their TRUST and KEEP it!!!!
