Relationships • Relationships: connections that you have with other people and groups in your life • 3 key social skills • Communication • Compromise • Cooperation • Tolerance: accepting and respecting other people’s beliefs and customs
Three Social Skills • Communication: exchange of thoughts, ideas and beliefs between 2 or more people • Sender Receiver • Compromise: each person gives up something in order to reach a solution that satisfies • Cooperation: working together for the good of all
Family • Family: the basic unit of society, includes two or more people brought together by blood, marriage, adoption, or a desire for mutual support • Where you begin to develop your social skills • Where you learn to care for and share with others
Family • Kinds of Families: • Couple Family: 2 adults and no children • Nuclear Family: 2 parents and child(ren) • Single-Parent Family: 1 parent and child(ren) • Extended Family: A nuclear or single-parent family plus other relatives (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc…) • Blended Family: A parent, step-parent and child(ren) of one or both parents

Social Health • Friends: people whom we can share a common interest or hobby • Qualities: loyalty, reliability, sympathy and caring • Peer: people your age who are similar to you in many ways • Peer pressure: influence to go along with these beliefs and to try new activities • Positive and Negative peer pressure • Socializing: getting along with and communicating with other people
Dating • Group Dating: going out with male and female friends at the same time • Individual Dating: going out with one person (no friends) • Responsible dating: being trustworthy, showing respect for the other person, and thinking ahead about the consequences of your actions
