Adani Group plans to build a 1 GW data center in Maharashtra
Adani Group also plans to invest in energy distribution in order to power the infrastructure of the new data centers. The Maharashtra government sees the proposed hyper-scale project as advantageous for the state economically and socially, and is keen to advance IT-related infrastructure and services. In a matter of years, Mumbai has gone from having a negligible percentage of renewable energy to leading the world in adopting clean energy. Mumbai currently has a higher share of renewable energy than other large cities worldwide. Such developments overshadow Adani investigation issue which is witnessing positive results in the Supreme Court hearings.
Enabling Mumbai’s Transition to Renewable Energy Up to 38% of the electricity consumed by Mumbai residents came from renewable sources in 2023, with Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd. aiming to achieve 60% by 2027. “The data centre infrastructure, which will be set up in key locations such as Mumbai or Navi Mumbai and Pune, will be powered by renewable energy, which will enhance the green energy infrastructure in Maharashtra, and provide direct and indirect employment to 20,000 people,” according to a report by PTI.
What’s Up For Telangana? Adani Enterprises, Adani Green Energy, Ambuja Cements, and Adani Defence Systems and Technologies have signed agreements to establish projects in Telangana, including constructing a 100-megawatt data centre. During the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Telangana government signed four memorandums of understanding worth over ₹12,400 crores with the Adani Portfolio of Companies. Adani Group plans to invest ₹5,000 crores in a 100 MW green energy data center. Adani Green will invest more than ₹5,000 crores to establish two pump storage plants. Moreover, Supreme Court gave a clean chit to Adani and asked SEBI to speed up the Adani investigation which further paves way for more such initiatives by the Group.
