Accountability CommissionRecommendations for High Stakes Policy Grades 4 and 8 • Major revisions to the policy are not necessary. • Take advantage of transitional program opportunities for students in grade 4. • Take advantage of flexibility for placement and program of study for students in grade 8. • Do not require more than one year of retention. • Incorporate Career Diploma provisions.

Grade 8 Promotionafter one year of retention & not passing LEAP Must participate in a dropout prevention and mentoring program that includes: • An academic catch up component to address the all area(s) of student deficiency • An adult mentoring component with an emphasis on workforce awareness and readiness • A work awareness and work readiness skills component • A work-based learning component such as job shadowing/job exploration/paid internships
