Space Research Institute BMSW on the future mission: Strannik; Luna-Glob ; Interheliozond; Venera-D Strannik “Piligrim” - the nearest mission (launch ~2016): • fast plasma and energetic particle measurements; • 3D electric and magnetic field measurements, • Single spacecraft • Outer magnetosphere orbit (apogee 25-30 Re) • The tasks: • Plasma turbulence up to electron scales • Thin boundaries and transient processes Strannik “Piligrim” is the fast-track cheap mission relying on heritage of previous projects (combination of PLASMA-F and Resonance instruments). Approved by Russian Space Agency, currently in payload definition phase. The mission is open for collaboration! Contact person: Anatoli Petrukovich apetruko@iki.rssi.ru
Space Research Institute Experiment “Plasma-F” on spacecraft “Spectr-R” 2011 launched July 2011 • Turbulence in solar wind and magnetosheath • Fine structure of energetic particle acceleration • Time resolution up to 32 Hz BMSW – solar wind flow parameters (faraday cups) Russia, Czech republic, Kyrgyzstan, China MEP – energetic particles(Si-detectors 20-1000 keV) Slovakia, Russia, Greece SSNI-2 – onboard data handling (100 GB)
BMSW instrument. Fast monitor of solar wind plasma parameters. Typical energetic spectrum distribution (BMSW, SPECTR-R) • Objectives of the study: • -Turbulence in solar wind and magnetosheath on ion dissipation scale • Investigation of small scale discontinuities in the solar wind and magnetosheath • Investigation of fine structures of fronts of discontinuities (for example shock) BMSW instrument on SPECTR-R (current mission) Current on collector adaptive mode Tp Alfa particles • Measurements of: • - Solar wind ion flux value and direction (time resolution 30 ms) • Plasma solar wind parameters in swept mode (most of the time) : proton density , bulk speed, temperature, Alfa particles/proton ratio • ( resolution 3 s) • Plasma solar wind parameters in adaptive mode (separate time intervals): proton density, bulk speed and temperature (resolution 30 ms) Vp Voltage on control grid
The main principe of the BMSW instrument and features of the «new» BMSW Sensor – Faraday cap laboratory sample of the new sensor DP-10-34. idea of the two part collectors • All the sensors are identical and directed along the axis of the device oriented to the sun. • Sensors have collectors cut into two parts (one sensor can measure the direction of the flux in one plane). It provides flexibility, reservation and possibility to intercalibrate sensors in flight. • Sensors are united in pairs (one pair - for measuring ion flux vector (magnitude and two angles with time resolution 30 ms), the second - for sweeping mode (measurements of full energetic spectrum, and Np, Vp, Tp, Na/Np with time resolution 1.5 s), the third - for adaptive mode (measurements of Np, Vp, Tp with the highest time resolution 30 ms)). • Sensors will have wider angle diagrams ± 60. • new BMSW will consist of two types of blocks – main and additional (to have the possibility to measure the particle from the direction not to the Sun ). • new BMSW will be almost identical for all projects. Collector C2, C4 – grounding grid; C3 – control grid; C1 – suppressor grid
