Fundamental principles for safe behaviour • No job is so important that you do not have time to do it safely • No job to start unless it can be done safely • Everyone must follow safe practices, rules and procedures • Always challenge dangerous acts and hazardous conditions • Report all incidents/hazardous conditions • Stop any job which feels unsafe
What will this mean to me? • I react if I see a hazardous situation – and I will take appropriate action • I appreciate it when someone corrects me • I am responsible for my safety, and the safety of my workmates
Personal Responsibility for Safety means: • We are required to work safely • We are required to look after others • We are required to follow all rules & procedures • Supervisors and Managers must: - ensure their team meets these requirements - deliver safety performance We will all be held responsible for the above.
General House Rules mandatory for everybody in SEPNo. We will wear personal protective equipment appropriate to the task We will keep our work site clean, tidy and free of obstructions We will observe and follow all safety-related signs We will never cross barriers without permission We will walk, not run We will not put our hands in our pockets or read while walking We will hold the handrail when walking the stairs We will use the right tool for the job and use it correctly We will use correct manual handling and lifting techniques

What are the steps in this process? • This team briefing on responsibility and safety rules • A one-to-one discussion with each of you resulting in work targets and actions as input in the next Staff Appraisal • Continued roll out to your teams and one-to-one to your team members in the same format • A follow up through regular reviews of performance
Summary • Responsibility for Safety will become the normal way of working in all of SEPNo’s locations. • Everyone in SEPNo must understand what’s expected of them • Once Responsibility for Safety is embedded in SEPNo we will be able to take great pride from being a leader in safety “OUR SAFETY- MY RESPONSIBILITY”
