  2. How The Development Of An Infant Is Affected By Drug Abuse During Pregnancy? Drug abuse during pregnancy • Development of the fetus during pregnancy • Childhood cognitive development

  3. Drugs: • Tobacco • Marijuana • Cocaine • Opiates

  4. Findings: • Damage of the Central Nervous System during prenatal period • Small head circumference • Reduced gray matter • Low birth weight • Long term emotional and behavior problems

  5. NAS (Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome): • Diarrhea • Vomiting • Psychological stress • High-pitched crying • Tremor • Irritability

  6. Conclusion: • More research • Intervention –mother abstinence • NAS- treatment after birth • Assessment of the child through childhood
