What is Pan-Africanism? • Movement dedicated to establishing independence for Africa nations • And unity for black throughout the world • Originated with conferences in London • 1900, 1919, 1921, 1923 • First truly intergovernmental conference held in 1958 (Ghana)
Bob Marley and Pan-African • Influenced by Marcus Garvey and Haile Selassie • Garvey believed that blacks wanted their own country, and culture to be respected, as well as freedom. • December 3, 1976 Assassination attempt • His music and influence was heard and felt across the world.
