Levers • A lever is a long bar with a support. • The fulcrum supports the weight of the bar and what the bar carries. • The object you want to move is called the load. • The effort is a push or pull that moves the load in some way.

Wheel and Axle • A special kind of lever that moves or turns objects
Pulley • A pulley is a wheel and axle with a a rope, wire or chain around it. • A pulley changes the direction of force—you pull down on the rope to make the load go up
Inclined Plane • An inclined plane is the same as a ramp. • Objects can be slid up or down an inclined plane to make the job easier.
Wedge • A special kind of Inclined Plane • Wedges are used to split things apart • They can also be used to hold things together.
Screw • A screw is also an inclined plane. If you could unwrap a screw’s threads you could see the inclined place. • Screws fasten things together.
