  5. Groups of People Divided by Nationalism Ottoman Empire • Made up of many ethnic groups that wanted self-determination (Self Rule) • Internal Fighting = “Sick Man of Europe” = “Powder Keg” led to World War

  6. Groups of People Divided by Nationalism Soviet Union • Satellites wanted self-determination because of economic problems • The U.S.S.R. could not afford to fight • Satellites became independent

  7. Ethnic Minority that was persecuted because of Nationalism Jews In Nazi Germany • Hitler used Jews as a scapegoat, they became a common enemy • Holocaust (6 Million Jews Killed) Nuremburg Trials Zionism Albanians in Kosovo • U.N. stepped in to avoid ethnic cleansing
