  1. The Renaissance By: Martin Goodgion, Katie Clayton, Alex Fancher, Julia Smith, Andy Ford, and Rebecca Moore.

  2. Customs & Traditions • Art – There were tons of artists in the Renaissance who created many paintings and designs for Churches and Meeting Halls. • Some artists were Nicholas Hilliard, Marcus Gheeraerts the Younger, etc. • Commonly seen around this time period were portraiture and landscaping. • A famous portraiture was “The portraiture of Elizabeth I”.

  3. Music & Literature • Poets and Authors - William Shakespeare was a major impact towards the English Renaissance; he wrote many plays and poetry. His plays are still read and performed today due to how real it could be portrayed in current modern day time. • Other literature geniuses were: James Shirley, Edmund Spenser, Thomas Wyatt, etc. • Music- Thomas Tallis, Thomas Morley, and John Dowland were the common English composers of this time period. • Literature has also influenced printing, which spread the ideas and readings.

  4. Architecture • During this time, the gothic architecture was introduced. • Everything came from wood to stone, everything was more centered around appearance. • It was designed to look the best. • Some ceiling copied the gothic ribbed vaulting, a bunch of arches basically. • Chimneys were designed to be a centerpiece.

  5. Traditions • At the end of the 15th and beginning of the 16th century, the rediscovery of classical Greek and Roman texts prompted critical study of ancient and contemporary knowledge about the natural world. • There were also games and sports that were involved in the Renaissance. • Examples were Jousting and Hunting. A lot of people participated in these events. Festivals were major as well.
