Describe in detail,the impact of onephysical factor that could impact your performance in a positive way. • In Badminton speed is important to allow you to move from your base position to get under the shuttle quickly, and then to return to base after hitting shuttle.
Describe in detail,the impact of onemental factor that could impact your performance in a negative way • In badminton concentration is important to allow you to focus on the shuttle and the present shot. If you are playing in a match and you are not concentrating fully you won’t be able to play at your best as you will be concentrating on things that are not important.
Describe in detail, the impact of oneemotional factor that could impact your performance in a negative way • In badminton it is important that you are confident in your own ability. If you are not confident going into a match then it will affect your performance in a negative way, you will not execute shots the shots you want with precision as you are not confident about your own skills/ performance.
Describe in detail, the impact of onesocial factor that could impact your performance in a positive way. • In badminton it is important to show good etiquette, by showing good etiquette you give the opposition an impression that you are focussed and calm during the match. If you are playing in a match and you lose a point, you should return the shuttle to your opponent in the correct manner.
GATHERING INFORMATIONSelect one of the factors – Physical :Skills and Techniques • Looking at the Overhead clear, using an observation schedule with the success criteria gather from a model performer. Preparation, Action and recovery of the skill, PAR analysis.
Describe how you gathered information about this factor • I played 15 Overhead clears from a feed from my partner to the back of the court • As I was playing the shots my other partner recorded my performance on the observation schedule • My partner marked my performance with a tick or a cross on the observation schedule against the success criteria. • My performance was set against a list of success criteria of a model performer playing an OHC • The criteria was gather from watching a model performer many times and described the skill using Preparation, Action and Recovery (PAR Analysis)
Explain why you used this method to gather information about your performance • This method gave me a permanent record of my performance • It could be used to compare my performances in future (evidence) and be used to see if I have made improvement to my weaknesses • The information is relevant and accurate to my own performance of an OHC • The information was unbiased as my partner had recorded my performance of the OHC on the observation schedule • The video in conjunction with the Observation schedule also increased the validity as it allowed me time to look at my performance repeatedly and closely, to judge success and failure against the agreed
Describe the information you gathered • The information gathered gave me breakdown of the PAR analysis of the OHC • I gathered the information and it gave me clear weaknesses and strengths of my OHC • My weakness was that I did not transfer my weight through the shot in the action phase and in the recovery phase I did not return to the base position
Explain the impact of this on your whole performance • I was unable to clear the shuttle to the back of the court which allowed my opponent to smash the shuttle back over the net • I was unable to recover to the base position so my opponent was able to hit the shuttle into the space on the court where I should have been • After doing my practices I am now able to clear the shuttle to the back of the court, so my opponent can no longer smash back to me, I now consistently recover to base which allows me to be in a better position to play the next shot
PROGRAMME OF WORK • Describe the practices that you used to develop the weakness you have identified in your performance (you may use diagrams). • You must include: • Method of practice • Description of practice • Number of repetitions • Targets • How you got feedback
Practice 1: Repetition Drill • In 3s: One player feeds the shuttle high to the back of the court for me to play and overhead clear to the back tram lines on the opponent’s side of the court. I needed to hit 15 out of 20 shuttles to the back of the court. A third player would watch my performance and judge if I was successful or not with my targets, they would also complete and observation schedule for my OHC against the success criteria originally used during data collection. Practice 2: Conditioned Game • Playing against an opponent of equal ability I will play a conditioned game up to 21 points. If I play a successful overhead to the back tram lines and my opponent can not return the shuttle I get double points. I will receive feedback at the end of the game from a third pupil who will carry out an observation schedule on my OHC.
Justify why you used these practices. (2 reasons for each practice) • Practice 1: Repetition Drill • Repetition many times eliminates faults and encourages muscle memory • Easy to spot the weaknesses/ areas for development in the skill • Practice 2:Conditioned Game • To work in a game situation but focus on specific skills • To increase motivation/confidence to perform the skill in a competitive game
Describe how you monitored your programme of work Data Collection: • I collected data by using other pupils in the class, carrying out an observation schedule with the success criteria of a model performer performing an overhead clear. Feedback: • The pupil that was completing the observation schedule ticked and crossed my performance against the success criteria during my performance. • The use of an iPad was also used to gather further evidence as I could watch my performance repeatedly and in slow motion. Goals / Target Setting: • I knew when I had been successful if I had reached the targets that’s I had set.
Explain why it is necessary to monitor your programme of work • To let you know if you are achieving your targets • To make sure the practices are sufficiently demanding • Let you continually identify your strengths and weaknesses • Lets you know the areas of your skill where you need to work more • Allows you to compare performances (evidence) • Let’s you adapt if It is not working e.g. too easy/difficult
As you work through your programme of work, explain how it might change • If I am finding the practices too easy/difficult I can reassess my targets and change them to suit, by making them harder or easier depending on my original set targets • I could make the practices harder from: Shadow- Repetition-Combination-Conditioned games
