Sugars • What is starch? Chain of glucose molecules: a carbohydrate • What is glycogen? Chain of glucose stores energy in liver + muscles carbohydrate • Pasta is a starchy food – why might we eat pasta before a marathon? Starch is broken down slowly to release the glucose like a time release system.
Constructing and breaking Down • Hydrolysis- Addition of water (h2o) breaking down molecules requires the addition of water • Dehydration reaction- removal of water making a molecule remove water molecules.
