  2. What Form of Government Was Setup • Constitutional Monarchy • Monarchy Was Persevered • The king would be the head of the state • A permanent legislature would make laws • The king could not dissolve the legislature

  3. What powers did the new legislative assembly have • King Louis XVI had no choice but to accept the new constitution even though, by its terms, he lost most of his power

  4. How did it make the government more efficient • Abolished the ancient French provinces • Created 83 local areas of roughly equal size called departments • Each department was subdivided into smaller units • Including districts & communes • Gave all citizens religious freedom

  5. How did the moderate reformers view the new constitution • Outlined the Declaration Of Rights • For a long time the protestants had no civil standing in France • Assimilated the Catholics in everything
