Effective school-wide systems include: • An agreed upon and common approach to discipline. • A positive statement of purpose. • A small number of positively stated expectations for all students and staff. • Procedures for teaching these expectations tostudents. www.pbis.org
Effective school-wide systems include: • A continuum of procedures for encouraging displays and maintenance of these expectations. • A continuum of procedures for discouraging displays of rule-violating behavior. • Procedures for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the discipline system on a regular and frequent basis. www.pbis.org
How do we know if a school-wide system of discipline or positive behavioral interventions and supports is effective? Data
Data-Driven process • Understand the impact of processes on the student population • Assess needs to target services on important issues • Provide information to eliminate ineffective practices • Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of current procedures • Make modifications before problem behavior patterns become too durable and un-modifiable • Show if school goals and objectives are being accomplished
Establish a PBIS Leadership Team • The Leadership Team will meet once a week and it will be a representation of the entire staff. • The team will constantly review the expectations, systems, and data (office referrals, data collected by our external coaches.)

Setting Clear School-Wide Expectations • Well-designed expectations: Important first step in building an effective school-wide PBIS system • Establish the culture and vision for the campus community • Convey to students what staff expect • Guide student and staff behavior • Strengthen teacher monitoring and correction of behavior

Develop Common Area Rules • Convey to students what teachers expect • Guides student behavior • Strengthen teacher monitoring and feedback of behavior • Developing and posting school or classroom rules alone does not guarantee appropriate behavior.
