Retention • Remember what has been read and connecting it to what you already know.
Difficulties • 85% of children with learning difficulties also have reading difficulties. • Early identification is better. • By third grade reading to learn is essential to classroom work. • Learn strategies on how to read. • Dyslexia- Most common reading difficulty.
Decoding- Difficulties • Don’t hear or differentiate the sounds. • Signs of trouble: • Sounds out words • Confusion between letters • Slow oral reading • Reading without expression • Ignoring punctuation. • Ready to Practice?
Comprehension- Difficulties • If they can’t decode they cannot comprehend. • Signs of trouble: • Confusion about the meaning of words or sentences • Can’t connect ideas • Emission of detail • Important details • Lack of concentration
Retention- Difficulties • Needs to have decoding, and comprehension present in order to obtain. • Signs of trouble: • Remembering • Summarizing • Connecting to prior knowledge • Personal experience • Ready to Practice?
