Roger Williams • ~Reasons for Banishment • He was banished from Massachusetts Bay in 135 • Banished for his teachings • He was a Minister and was spreading “Dangerous Thoughts” about Religion • -
~Different Views • Roger Williams believed in Religious Freedom. • He also strongly believed in the Separation of the Church and State. • He disapproved the confiscating of land from the Native Americans.

Anne Hutchinson • ~Reasons for Banishment • She believed that faith alone was the key to salvation. • Believed that one can have an individual relationship with God. • Opposed to Puritan emphasis on good works and belief on predestination.

Thomas Hooker ~Reasons for Banishment • He wasn’t actually Banished from Massachusetts Bay. • Thomas Hooker left because he disagreed with the leaders of the colony.
~Different Views • Supported extended suffrage (right to vote in an election) • Promoted a concept of a government that must answer to the people. • Argued for greater religious tolerance. • Believed God’s favor needed to be re-earned.
