  2. Sun Run – 2007 • Our school created a PE program that helped us train for the Vancouver 10km Sun Run • 11 students participated in this Run • For some of us it was our first time away from home

  3. Sun Run – 2008 • 14 students & staff participated in the 2008 Sun Run as the final requirement for our PE 12 credit • Students and Staff came up with the idea to form Kitsumkalum In Action in 2008 to support activities which involve our community

  4. Sun Run 2009 • 17 students, staff & Kitsumkalum Band members participated in the 2009 Vancouver Sun Run

Sun Run 2009 Cont. • Our Dilemma: The Vancouver Sun Run was very expensive and many of us students felt that we had to do a lot of fundraising, which interfered with our studies. • Also, when we were in Vancouver we were missing their children and families...often wishing that they could share in this wonderful experience with us. • Our Solution: The students & staff created a local event called the SalmonRun... • together with Kitsumkalum community members we planned the 1st SalmonRun for July 12th 2009 – hoping that it would become an annual event

  6. 1st SalmonRun – July 2009 • We worked hard to plan this event • We decided on a logo & medal categories • We mapped out a run route through the community • We started making investments for future runs... we purchased Signs & Banners

  7. EVENT DAY 2009 • Runners & Spectators from far & wide • Great wild salmon BBQ • Elders Route, 5km, 10km • Sponsors, Medals & Prizes • All Ages & Abilities
