  2. TASK • PEFORM FIRST AID FOR HEAT INJURIES • CONDITIONS • YOU SEE A CASUALTY WHO HAS SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF A HEAT INJURY AND HAS A FULL CANTEEN OF OOL WATER. • STANDARDS • RECOGNIZED THE TYPE OF HEAT INJURY & GAVE APPROPRIATE MEDICAL AID

  3. OBJECTIVES • 3 TYPES OF HEAT INJURIES • SYMPTOMS OF ALL 3 • IDENTIFY THE TYPE OF HEAT INJURY • PROVIDE PROPER FIRST AID

  4. HEAT CRAMPS • MUSCLE CRAMPS OF ARMS, LEGS, ABDOMEN • EXCESSIVE SWEATING • THIRST

  5. HEAT EXHAUSTION • PROFUSE SWEATING WITH PALE, MOIST, COOL SKIN • HEADACHES • DIZZINESS • LOSS OF APPETITE • NAUSEA, WITH OR WITHOUT VOMITING • URGE TO DEFECATE • CHILLSE (GOOSE BUMPS) • RAPID BREATHING • TINGLING OF THE HANDS AND/OR FEET • CONFUSION

  6. HEAT STROKE • FLUSHED, HOT, DRY SKIN • HEADACHE • DIZZINESS • NAUSEA • CONFUSION • WEAKNESS • LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS • SEIZURES • WEAK & RAPID PULSE & BREATHING

  7. HEAT CRAMPS • MOVE TO COOL OR SHADY AREA (IMPROVISE IF NECESSARY) • LOOSEN RESTRICTING CLOTHES (BUT NOT IN CHEMICAL ENVIRONMENT) • GIVE 1 CANTEEN (SLOWLY) • SEEK MEDICAL AID

  8. HEAT EXHAUSTION • MOVE TO COOL OR SHADY AREA • LOOSEN OR REMOVE CLOTHING/BOOTS • POUR WATER OVER CASUALTY AND FAN • GIVE 1 CANTEEN SLOWLY • ELEVATE LEGS • MONITOR • SEEK MEDICAL AID

  9. HEAT STROKE • MOVE TO COOL SHADY AREA • LOSSEN OR REMOVE CLOTHING • SPRAY OR POUR WATER OVER CASUALTY AND FAN • MASSAGE ARMS AND LEGS • ELEVATE LEGS • IF CONSCIOUS, GIVE COOL WATER (SLOWLY) • SEEK MEDICAL AID

  10. HEAT STROKE • HEAD STROKE IS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY THAT MAY RESULT IN DEATH IF TREATMENT IS DELAYED. • START COOLING METHODS IMMEDIATELY UNTIL MEDICAL ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE.
